James C. Martin, Jr., M.D.,F.A.C.S. is a board certified otolaryngologist practicing in the southwest Houston area. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University, receiving a B.S. in Zoology in 1975. Upon graduation, he entered into post-graduate training in the Department of Physiology at the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his masters in Physiology in 1978 and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1982.
Following his graduation from medical school, he began his residency training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Upon completion of the five year program in 1987, Dr. Martin entered private practice in Winston-Salem, North Carolina prior to moving to Sugar Land in 1993. Along with Drs. David Devorkin and Marvin Lerner, he joined Houston Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic in 1996.
Dr. Martin and his wife, Joyce, have five children. Joyce's son, Rene, is a graduate of the Naval Academy and is currently deployed as a weapon's officer on the USS Maryland nuclear submarine. Her daughter, Roxanne, graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and recently completed her MD degree from UT in Houston. She will begin her residency training in otolaryngology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California in July 2012.
Dr. Martin's oldest son, Matthew, graduated from Texas A&M University and is employed as an orthopedic sales representative in Houston. His daughter, Lindsay, recently graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos and is employed by The Young Life Organization in youth ministry. His youngest son, Michael, currently attends The University of Texas in Austin and wants to pursue a medical degree upon completion of his undergraduate studies. The entire family is certified in SCUBA and enjoys diving as well as other outdoor activities. Additionally, Dr. Martin is a competitive shooter of sporting clays. Hearing protection is a must!
Dr. Martin enjoys practicing all aspects of ENT, with special interest in sinus disease, the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea as well as diving related problems. He is uniquely qualified in his specialty, as Dr. Martin is double boarded in Otolaryngology as well as Sleep Medicine and the only otolaryngologist to be board certified in Sleep Medicine in Fort Bend County.
Additionally, Dr. Martin completed a training and certification to perfrom in-office balloon sinuplasty. This is a safe and relatively simple procedure for selected sinus patients, allowing them to resume normal activities the next day, thereby, avoiding both general anesthesia and hospitalization.
Dr. Martin is a past Chief of Staff at Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, Texas as well as St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital. He is a member of many professional organizations and various hospital committees.
