Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT)
The word "subcutaneous" means "situated or lying under the skin," and that definition should give you a fairly good idea of what subcutaneous immunotherapy is. SCIT involves injections under the skin, beginning with frequent injections of allergen extract. Following the initial phase, what's known as a "maintenance phase" begins, with injections administered approximately once a month. These injections will hopefully help the body adjust to the allergen that was causing so much trouble in the first place.
Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)
"Sublingual" means "situated under the tongue" and this treatment can be a much better option than SCIT. With sublingual immunotherapy, allergy tablets are placed under the tongue, allowing the body to absorb the allergen into the bloodstream. Our doctors will gladly discuss whether or not SLIT is a viable option for your allergic reactions.
