Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our dynamic Allergy and Immunology Clinic as an allergy float nurse. In this role, you will provide specialized care across multiple clinic locations, supporting teams in diagnosing, treating, and educating patients with allergic conditions. This position offers the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings, gaining experience with diverse patient populations, including both pediatric and adult patients.
Key Roles and Responsabilities
Patient Assessment and Triage:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including taking detailed medical histories, recording allergy symptoms, and measuring vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, temperature) at various clinic locations.
- Triage patients based on urgency, providing appropriate guidance and prioritization in collaboration with the healthcare team across multiple offices.
Diagnostic Testing and Procedures:
- Perform allergy skin tests (such as prick/puncture, intradermal, and patch tests) under the supervision of a physician, adapting to the specific protocols of each clinic.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, ensuring they understand the process and are comfortable throughout, regardless of location.
- Accurately document test results and communicate findings to the attending physician in each clinic.
Administration of Allergy Treatments:
- Prepare and administer allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots) according to established protocols and physician orders at various locations.
- Monitor patients during and after the administration of treatments for adverse reactions and provide immediate care or escalate as necessary.
- Educate patients on the importance of adhering to their immunotherapy schedule and the potential side effects of treatments, ensuring consistency across all clinic settings.
Patient Education and Support:
- Provide thorough education to patients and their families regarding their allergy conditions, including triggers, avoidance strategies, and management plans, tailored to the specific needs of each clinic's patient population.
- Instruct patients on the correct use of medications such as antihistamines, inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and other prescribed treatments.
- Offer guidance on lifestyle modifications, dietary restrictions, and environmental controls to help patients manage their allergies effectively.
Clinical Documentation and Coordination:
- Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed patient records in the EHR system, ensuring all documentation is compliant with clinic policies and regulatory standards at each location.
- Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized patient care plans across multiple offices.
- Assist in scheduling follow-up appointments, lab tests, and referrals to specialists as needed, facilitating seamless care between locations.
Clinic Operations and Compliance:
- Ensure that each allergy clinic is well-organized, clean, and stocked with necessary medical supplies and equipment, adapting quickly to different environments.
- Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including infection control and patient confidentiality (HIPAA), regardless of the office location.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices within the clinic, sharing insights across locations.
Patient Relations and Communication:
- Build strong, empathetic relationships with patients, providing support and reassurance throughout their care journey across multiple offices.
- Effectively communicate with patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring clarity and understanding at all times, regardless of the location.
- Handle patient inquiries, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and compassion, adapting to the needs of different clinic environments.
Qualifications
Licensure and Certification:
- Current and valid LVN license in Texas.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Certification in Allergen Extract Mixing is a plus
Experience
- 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, with preference given to candidates with experience in allergy, immunology, or related specialties is preferred.
- Experience in administering injections and conducting patient education is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong clinical skills, including proficiency in allergy testing, medication administration, and patient assessment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to educate and engage patients effectively.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation and patient care.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other clinical software systems.
- Flexibility to travel between multiple clinic locations as required.
