Cochlear Implants Can Help With Hearing Damage

June 5th, 2015 | 1 min. read

By Houston ENT & Allergy

Suffering severe hearing damage can greatly affect a person's life, and struggling to hear for several years can leave a person feeling very frustrated. If you've suffered drastic hearing loss due to a traumatic event, such an explosion near your ears or prolonged exposure to noise, Houston ENT & Allergy is here to help. At our location in Southwest Houston, our doctors can provide cochlear implants that bypass the damaged portions of your inner ear, restoring your hearing and removing frustration from your life.

There are two primary parts of the cochlear implant - the processor and the implant. During the surgery, the processor is placed outside the ear, where it picks up sounds and transmits them to the implant. The implant is inserted in your body, behind your ear, and when it picks up the signals from the processor, it sends them directly to the hearing nerves in your head. The damaged parts of your ear are passed over, helping you hear clearly for the first time in a long time.

You don't have to settle for profound hearing loss and how it can affect your life. Visit your ENT doctors in Southwest Houston and learn more about cochlear implants and other ENT treatments. We're located directly off the Southwest Freeway, in the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza. Our staff is always happy to help new patients find the treatments they need, so that they can hear, breathe, or sleep better. Stop by our clinic or call us at 281-649-7000 at your convenience.
