When you get up in the morning, you expect to stand up from bed, put on your slippers, and head to the kitchen to make your first cup of coffee. You might experience a little dizziness if you stand up too fast, but if that dizziness continues as you go through your morning routine, there could be a more serious problem than just being off-balance for a bit. At Houston ENT & Allergy in Katy, we've treated many patients that were experiencing balance issues due to an inner ear disorder.
The vestibular system in the inner ear is comprised of the otolithic organs and three semicircular canals. These three canals have fluid in them and are lined with hair cells that contain nerve sensors. As our body moves, the fluid moves, and the nerve sensors send signals to the brain. Along with your senses of sight and touch, your brain is able to interpret where you are and where you're going. If there's an issue with the inner ear, these signals get interrupted, and you can experience dizziness and loss of balance. You might be able to see where you're going, but the signals in your brain won't be interpreted correctly, and your body won't respond how you want it to.
If you've experienced chronic dizziness after getting out of bed, or even during the middle of the day, make an appointment with our Katy ENT clinic today. We want you to feel safe when you're walking around your home, outside, or in your office. We can properly treat any inner ear disorder, and restore balance to your life.
