Schedule Your Child's Tonsillectomy in 2016

January 2nd, 2016 | 1 min. read

By Houston ENT & Allergy

Hundreds of thousands of children in the United States have their tonsils removed every year, and the reasons for a tonsillectomy can vary significantly. According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, approximately 20 percent of tonsillectomies are performed because of recurrent infection, and 80 percent for obstructive sleep problems. If you've noticed that your child has started snoring, has trouble breathing while asleep, or sounds stuffy when awake, make an appointment with our Kingwood ENT clinic right away.

Enlarged tonsils and adenoids can lead to a number of throat and sinus problems in children, but surgery is rarely performed before the child turns one year old. Our ENT specialists can examine your child's throat and neck, and determine if surgery is the best option. We'll explain the procedure and help you understand what the recovery time will be. As for costs, we will work with your insurance provider to cover certain medical expenses. Above all, we want both you and your child to be comfortable before, during, and after the operation.

If you feel that a tonsillectomy is in your son or daughter's best interest, please contact us right away. We can schedule the initial consultation at our Kingwood ENT clinic, and then schedule the date of the surgery. We'll help your child understand what will happen, and that any pain from chronic sore throats or stuffy sinuses will be gone after their tonsils are removed. Our goal is to provide the very best in ear, nose, and throat treatment. We look forward to speaking with you!
